Honey Nut Cheerio Bars

I made these cereal bars for my daughter's K5 class the week we signed up for "special snack" and everyone enjoyed them. I figured the little ones probably didn't want nuts and such in their snacks. But next time I make these I'll be a little more creative in what I add to the bars. They are great for on the go snacks and breakfasts for young and old alike.
HONEY NUT CHEERIO BARS
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pinch cinnamon
3 cups Cheerios (or equivalent)
*optional 3/4 cup roasted unsalted almonds, roughly chopped

Instructions:
1. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with 2 pieces of parchment paper.

2. Combine butter, sugar, honey, salt, and cinnamon in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue to boil for about 2 minutes, then immediately remove from heat.

3. Stir in cereal and almonds. Pour into lined pan, pressing down with a rubber spatula. Let cool completely (about 30 minutes), and cut into squares or bars.

Notes:
If you choose to omit the almonds you'll want to add another cup or so of cereal to make up for it.
Or you can add 3/4 cup worth of other nuts, raisin, craisins, dried fruit, chocolate chips, etc.
